The Government published its response to the consultation on the Football Governance White Paper on September 7th

The statement demonstrates that the government is standing by its support for an independent regulator in the industry; legislation will be introduced “when Parliamentary time allows” and the case for reform is compelling.

It states that “football has failed to adequately resolve these issues by itself, which is why statutory regulatory intervention is required” in the document A Sustainable Future – Reforming Club Football Governance.

In the King’s Speech in November, legislation is anticipated. But “when Parliamentary time allows” doesn’t exactly exude confidence.
