JUST IN: I know it is a risky decision to make but I have no choice “Russell Martin drop a regular starter from lineup against Leeds”

Holgate out, 4-3-3: Southampton FC’s expected XI to face Leeds

Following their setback at Riverside last weekend, Russell Martin may want to make a few changes to his starting lineup.

After four defeats in a row, Southampton needs to get points on the board as quickly as possible.

They had a better start to the season than their opponents Leeds United, but the Whites are currently in better shape after improving their form during the international break.

With Daniel Farke’s team currently in the promotion mix, it simply goes to show how quickly things can change, which will give the Saints hope.

Russell Martin, on the other hand, faces some selection quandaries ahead of this game – and we have some ideas.

GK: Gavin Bazunu

Bazunu has been questioned, but Martin appears to have complete faith in him, and it would be surprising if he didn’t start tomorrow.

A major game like this necessitates experienced players, but switching goalkeepers is also not ideal.

LB: Ryan Manning

Martin’s former Swansea City teammate, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him come in for Mason Holgate, who struggled at the Riverside.

Given his struggles on the South Coast thus far, Holgate could struggle against Leeds’ powerful attacking line and will almost certainly need to be replaced.

CB: Jan Bednarek

With his expertise, Bednarek has the potential to be a key player tomorrow.

The Saints haven’t been particularly strong defensively this season, but he should preserve his place as a player who can contribute in both the defensive and attacking thirds.

CB: Taylor Harwood-Bellis

Harwood-Bellis hasn’t had the finest time at St Mary’s, but he was a key player for Burnley last season.

Martin should keep this in mind as he moves forward.

RB: Kyle Walker-Peters

Walker-Peters has shown us both his good and terrible sides this season.

However, he is definitely a skilled full-back who might be a valuable asset in the future if the Saints can control the game, which they can do by maintaining possession.

CDM: Shea Charles

Charles has been a crucial player for Martin, and despite being pulled off at the Riverside, it would not be surprising to see him start again.

He’s a young player with a lot of potential.

CM: Will Smallbone

Smallbone is another promising player who demonstrated his abilities while on loan at Stoke City last season.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see him make a difference if he can get into some nice positions. However, if he is to be effective in the final third, he must assist his team in winning the midfield battle.

CM: Flynn Downes

Downes is a player who can be a tremendous asset in this level.

And Martin will look to him as a key player in this match, as someone who is clearly at ease on the ball.

LW: Sam Edozie

Edozie looked promising after coming on last weekend, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him replace Ryan Fraser.

With some of his performances this season, the ex-Man City player has been a shining light for the Saints.

RW: Adam Armstrong

Armstrong is continuing to demonstrate why Martin has such high regard for him.

He may not have scored as many goals as he would have liked in the Premier League, but he is a prolific performer at this level who is well worth having.

ST: Che Adams

Adams will be eager to get back in the game and among the goals after a strong start to the season.

The Saints’ defense has been criticized this season, but he must also ensure that he is stepping up to the plate.
