Blackburn Rovers have been dealt an injury setback ahead of their trip to Coventry City this week, with the club’s first choice goalkeeper ruled out of the Championship match. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men arrive to the Coventry Building Society Arena with the joint-highest number of goals conceded in the division (20), which they share with Southampton, 15 of which have come in their past five league games.

The 24-year-old Swede has one friendly senior cap for his nation and joined Rovers from Norwegian side Odd in August for an undisclosed price, having previously been linked with Manchester United. He made his Championship debut in place of Pears against Leicester, when he conceded two goals late on. Tomasson, on the other hand, is convinced he will be ready to fill in if Pears is unable to go for the away games as expected.

“If you can’t walk on it, it doesn’t look that great,” Tomasson said of Pears’ injuries. “I haven’t received the report yet, but if you can’t walk on your foot, you won’t be playing for a while.”

“We will await the report.” Today was an excellent opportunity for Leo. He had his biggest game in his career so far against Cardiff, and he is likely to face a Premier League opponent today. We are confident in Leo’s ability, but he hasn’t performed at this level previously, unlike some of the other players we have.”

Blackburn supporters have been eager to see Wahlstedt in action, and he now appears to be getting that chance after previously being confined to two Carabao Cup appearances.
