BIG BLOW: The owls receives a very sad mockery words from rivals

Sheffield Wednesday’s attendance ranking in comparison to Leeds United, Sunderland, and Championship opponents

The Owls entered the current international break not only without a league win, but also without a manager, following the resignation of Xisco Munoz last week.

Sheffield Wednesday may not be performing to expectations on the field, but the club’s support remains unquestionable.

As if more confirmation were needed, the club confirmed this week that tickets for the trip to Watford later this month had sold out. A total of 2,104 tickets were swiftly scooped up for the October 21 match at Vicarage Road.

While the team is in danger of relegation, the fanbase is vying for a play-off spot in terms of average attendance. The Owls rank seventh in terms of greatest average attendance, with a total of 25,770 so far this season.

So far, Wednesday has played six home games, with the biggest attendance of 28,558 on opening night against Southampton. The lowest attendance for a league game at S6 was 22,975 for a midweek match against Middlesbrough.

Sunderland are far and by the second-tier leaders in terms of average home attendances. On average, 41,640 spectators attend games at the Stadium of Light. That is far and away the most, with Leeds (35,338) and Leicester (31,387) rounding out the top three.

In the coming months, Wednesdayites should expect some challenging excursions. Following the Watford game and the international break, the Owls travel to Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday, October 25.

On Saturday, November 4, they will embark on another lengthy journey to Bristol City. And, just for good measure, the fixture computer has scheduled another long-distance travel on a Wednesday night before the end of the year. The Owls will visit Norwich.
