Former golfer requests club not to pursue Bradman Best
The center of the equation has not actually been spending up.
Joel Caine, a former Wests Tigers center, has urged his old team not to pursue Newcastle Knights center Bradman Best.
The Wests Tigers are reportedly interested in both Moses Suli of the St. George Illawarra Dragons and Caine, according to rumours that first surfaced exactly seven days ago.
He could reportedly command $800,000 a season, and the Tigers may be ready to pay more to sign him for the 2025 campaign, according to News Corp. Best is currently bound to the Knights for the upcoming season and cannot begin contract negotiations with other teams until November 1.
“There’s so many good kids coming through, why are we in that conversation if the best clubs aren’t in that conversation?”
The Tigers have some depth at center, with Josh Feledy and Triston Reilly, who lack experience, competing for positions with Starford To’a, Brent Naden, and Asu Kepaoa. Best, however, would start the game as a walk-up.
To’a in particular, who recently extended his contract through 2026, would be closely monitoring the potential move. It’s interesting to note that To’a transferred from the Knights to the Tigers.
After making his Newcastle debut in the middle stages of 2019, Best experienced injury-plagued seasons in 2020–2022, but he had a breakout year in 2023. In Game Three of the NSW State of Origin series, Best made a surprise debut, scoring two tries in a decisive victory.
The NSW Blues center indicated at the end of August that he is keen to remain at Newcastle and is open to starting talks with the club as soon as possible, despite the fact that the Wests Tigers may be in the market for Bradman Best and attempting to grab him from the club.
Best declared to the Herald in August, “I’m officially done with my old manager coming up this week.”
“I’m unable to speak to anyone right now, but I want to stay here.
“I’ve spent my entire life coming through here as a junior. This year’s activities are very unique. We have some impressive players, this team is on the rise, and I definitely want to win this competition.
