NEWS UPDATE: Gary O’Neil gives a significant verdict on the Wolves best player

Lemina’s’special’ 24-year-old talent deserved to preserve his starting position for Wolves.

A few weeks ago, Gary O’Neil made a choice that fundamentally altered the atmosphere surrounding Wolves.

Despite leading 2-0, Wanderers lost a demoralizing encounter against Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup.

Being defeated 3-2 by a Championship team wasn’t at all desirable. especially after losing to Luton Town in the Premier League only a few days prior.

Wolves’ upcoming game against Manchester City was a dreadful one.

Wolves are expected to lose badly versus the defending Premier League champions.
But O’Neil executed his game plan brilliantly, as Wolves triumphed 2-1 at Molineux.

Toti Gomes’ inclusion to the back three was a crucial factor in that triumph, and the Portuguese central defender now deserves to preserve his starting position.

Time for Toti Gomes, with Wolves looking more assured when he plays

With Toti positioned on the left side of a back three, Wolves defeated City and earned three points.

The 24-year-old performed a good job, keeping Phil Foden quiet while occasionally stepping outside to interact with the England international.

Additionally, he cleaned up a few times for Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Toti received a second consecutive start against Aston Villa as a result of his performance, which led Mario Lemina to refer to him as “a special player.”

Again, Toti played well against some threatening and quick guys.

Toti played a significant part in both games, resulting in Wolves earning four points.

At Molineux, a significant attempt has recently been made to play with a more conventional back four system, ostensibly in the hope of producing more attacking football.

Bruno Lage abandoned the traditional back three formation with wingbacks at the beginning of the previous campaign. When Julen Lopetegui entered the room, he then carried on with that.

With Toti in the backline, however, Wolves still look good using their old style.

Max Kilman and Craig Dawson had appeared a little unsteady in the first few weeks of the new season.

After the international break, Toti should continue to start.

When he plays, he hardly ever lets the Wanderers down, therefore he keeps playing because it seems right. Especially considering that since switching back to the previous style, Wolves haven’t actually been any more “defensive” or “conservative.”
