HUGE BOOST: Manly Sea Eagles received a perfect squad boost

Forward Returning to the Manly Sea Eagles is Corey Waddell

In the midst of Canterbury’s continuing rebuild, Corey Waddell has departed the team and will make a one-year return to Manly.

The 27-year-old forward played 36 of his 95 games in first-class for the Sea Eagles, where he made his NRL debut in 2019.

He joins the Bulldogs in 2021 to work with Trent Barrett again, who was his mentor when he was a junior player for Penrith.

While Josh Schuster and Haumole Okalau’atu won’t likely be moved away from the edges next season, coach Anthony Seibold suggested Waddell could be utilized in the middle. Waddell generally starts in the second row.

“The thing that interested me in Corey is his work ethic,” Seibold stated.

He works quite hard. He gives the existing middle forwards we have access to a new kind of dimension.

As part of a post-season clean-out, Waddell leaves Canterbury alongside Paul Alamoti, Jake Averillo, Kyle Flanagan, Jayden Okunbor, Franklin Pele, and Luke Thompson.
