VERY TOUCHING: The Magpies ace fell in tears as medical told he will be out for two seasons

Newcastle United star sidelined for five months writes touching note, calling it “challenging”

After being absent for five months, the Newcastle United midfielder is almost ready to play again.

Joe Willock, a midfielder for Newcastle United, has sent out a touching message as his eagerly anticipated injury comeback draws near.

Willock’s hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion in May prevented him from playing for the Magpies for the previous five months. The midfielder experienced a setback and was not able to make his preseason return. His return was subsequently further delayed by a new Achilles ailment.

The 24-year-old eventually started working out again last week, but the 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday was too soon. In preparation for tonight’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, Willock was seen in full training on Tuesday.

On social media, Willock wrote: “So pleased to be back with the Team. It has been a difficult journey. I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped me out throughout this difficult time. Your words of support and encouragement meant the world to me.

When asked about Willock at his pre-game press conference, United head coach Eddie Howe said the player is “getting closer with every day that passed.” On Friday, Howe said: “I want him back. He’s trained this week for the first time with the group. It’s probably a bit early to have him involved in the matchday squad, but he’s getting closer and he’s a huge player for us.
