Ryan Papenhuyzen, a cult favorite of the Melbourne Storm, “secretly” joined a rival team following the young player’s startling string of injuries.

Following a terrible string of injuries, Melbourne Storm young gun Ryan Papenhuyzen is rumored to have been “secretly” sold to at least one rival NRL team as a possible recruit.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, an unidentified third party contacted a minimum of one club to determine whether Papenhuyzen’s services might be of interest.

The idea was apparently rejected by Melbourne general manager Frank Ponissi, since the player is under contract to the Storm till the end of the 2025 campaign.

One of the most marketable players in the entire NRL, Papenhuyzen, was apparently unfazed when questioned about the conversations.

Sualauvi Faalogo, a rookie fullback for the Storm, has had a huge impact on the NRL, therefore Papenhuyzen might be traded for.

Over the past few years, Papenhuyzen has been plagued by injuries; in September, he sustained a second major injury when playing against the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL finals.

During the first week of the playoffs, the explosive back was recovering from a shocking break to his kneecap that occurred midway through the 2022 season.

In the 73rd minute, as he was trying to make a tackle, his leg was trapped beneath teammate Nelson Asofa-Solomona, causing the 25-year-old to writhe in agony.

“You know what’s going through the mind of that young man?” He endured the battles to return, according to Fox Sports pundit Dan Ginnane.

“Ryan Papenhuyzen is the one player in our game who does not deserve this—sometimes it is not fair in this game,” Ginnane went on.

“Not a single fan in the game does not have sympathy for this man.”

Papenhuyzen disclosed the entire extent of the damage and expressed satisfaction that it was not a compound fracture in a podcast interview with Ausmerican Aces.

“I did a little damage at the time, dislocating my ankle, breaking my fibula, rupturing my deltoid, and rupturing my syndesmosis,” he stated.

Which, in my opinion, is the best case scenario out of all the ones they were throwing at the stadium.

The fact that the fracture stayed in the skin and wasn’t a complex fracture strikes me as being quite fortunate.

However, they mentioned that they were a little concerned because my sock had some blood on it. It has to have been from an earlier tackle, in my opinion.

“So I guess everyone was kind of thinking, ‘Ah s*** it’s out,’ when they came out.”

Although the damage was not as severe as initially anticipated, the Storm star still has a long path ahead of him.
