The former hairdresser’s body was then disposed of in the Solent, near The Needles, as the court was informed.

It is still one of the uncommon instances in which the authorities were able to find the victim’s body without obtaining a murder conviction.

David Gibson admitted to disposing of her body three days after the jury’s decisions were announced, but he said that he had nothing to do with her passing.

According to a representative for the Parole Board, the board makes decisions based only on the risk that a prisoner poses to the public if they are released and whether or not that risk can be managed in the community.

“A panel will closely review a plethora of material, including information on the initial crime and any indications of altered behavior.

The hearing then hears testimony from witnesses, including probation officers, psychologists and psychiatrists, officials overseeing the prisoner, and victim testimonies.

“Extreme caution and thoroughness are used in the parole assessment process. Our top goal is keeping the public safe.”

At Winchester Crown Court, the six-week trial began with both defendants entering not guilty pleas.

The jury was shown how, in February 2002, Belinda was smothered in the Purvis Gardens, Sholing, home of David Gibson, then 33, and his father, 66.

After that, her body was disrobed and put in the garden shed before being placed on an inflatable boat and discarded into the ocean.

According to reports, 32-year-old Belinda was murdered by David Gibson because he was having an affair and their marriage was collapsing.

“David Gibson was the prime force in initiating and carrying out this plan,” Mr. Justice Silber, the judge, stated.

“Leslie Gibson probably became involved under misguided loyalty for his son.”

He went on to say: “I think David Gibson played a much larger role in the actual murder, but I do believe Leslie Gibson was present when Belinda Gibson was murdered.”

Before being eligible for parole, David Gibson must serve a minimum of eighteen years and nine months, according to the judge’s decision.

Leslie Gibson, a former dock worker from Woolston’s Mortimer Road, should serve a minimum of ten years and nine months in jail, he continued.
