Arizona Diamondbacks receive a terrific challenge from rivals

The roof of Globe Life Field will stay closed for Texas vs. Arizona’s World Series game two.

Dallas, Texas — For Saturday night’s Game 2 of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks, the Globe Life Field roof will stay closed.

For Friday’s opening game, which Texas won 6-5 in 11 innings, the roof was closed. Rain started to fall on Saturday afternoon, and a thunderstorm was predicted for the evening.

The Globe Life roof was open for Games 1, 2, and 4 of the 2020 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays, and closed for Games 5, and 6.

The retractable roof of Arizona’s Chase Field in Phoenix raises the prospect of the first World Series held entirely indoors. When the Diamondbacks defeated the New York Yankees in all four of their home games in the 2001 World Series, the roof of the stadium—then known as Bank One Ballpark—was open for viewing.

MLB makes the call on the roof during the postseason, although the host club has the final say on the matter during the regular season.
