Pioli and his ‘mission impossible’ in attack amid heavy absences

Giroud’s two-match punishment was officially announced Monday, meaning he will miss games against both Fiorentina and Frosinone. Even though it wasn’t the biggest game, Milan still suffered a great deal because they don’t have a suitable alternative.

Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has highlighted the Frenchman’s seven goals this season, placing him second in the capocannoniere race. There is a problem because his subordinates, Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor, only have two goals apiece.

Following the break, AC Milan’s matchup with Fiorentina will not include either Olivier Giroud or Rafael Leao. a severe setback for Stefano Pioli, who faces intense pressure to salvage the Rossosneri.

For Stefano Pioli, replacing Giroud is more or less a ‘mission impossible’ and a lot of thinking will have to be done during the break. Especially since Leao will miss out on the clash as well, struggling with an injury which also could keep him out against Borussia Dortmund.

Okafor will likely be the starting left-winger, which means Jovic is the only choice left for the No.9 role. That is, of course, unless the manager decides to change the formation. Now is not really the time to do the latter, though.
