BREAKING NEWS: Derby County And QPR Now Interested In Signing Key Player In Blackpool

This post is a part of Football League World’s “The Verdict” series, in which FLW writers provide their own thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and other topics.

Several EFL teams are interested in signing Blackpool winger CJ Hamilton during the January transfer window, including Derby County.

That’s according to Football Insider, who also say that Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town, two Championship teams, are interested in addition to the Rams.

Hamilton arrived at Bloomfield Road on a free transfer from Mansfield Town in 2020.

According to this source, Blackpool may consider accepting offers for the 28-year-old winger as he approaches the last six months of his current deal in January.

Given that Hamilton has one goal and six assists in 18 league games this season, it appears that all three teams have identified him as someone they want to add to their attacking lineup in January.

Here, a few Football League World writers discuss this transfer saga, speculating on whether Blackpool should consider selling in January and whether Derby would make a smart move.
Whether or if Paul Warne remains in charge of the team, Derby County will probably want to bolster their offense during the January transfer window.

They made additions, although it could be argued that they still appear a little weak going forward. This was an area of the team that they sought to bolster in the summer.

Thus, acquiring more objectives and inventiveness for the team is essential if the Rams are to have any real hopes of moving up.

Because of his contract predicament, Hamilton will likely be viewed as a player who many teams can get for a reasonable sum.

The winger’s career has never truly been very prolific; instead, it appears that his finest play has come at different times over campaigns. However, the 28-year-old has had a strong start to the season, so it seems sense that Derby would be interested considering how well he’s performing in League One.

Hamilton would be a temporary fix for the team, but not someone that fans would get too excited about given his age and, as previously noted, his career numbers.

He may assist them accomplish their current campaign goals and would be a cheap purchase. Blackpool, however, is in a difficult situation and might be forced to make a decision if a tempting offer comes in because they don’t want to lose a valuable player, especially to a play-off contender, but they also don’t want him to be worthless at the end of the season.

Derby County’s January objectives are probably going to be attacking reinforcements, thus it makes sense that CJ Hamilton would be on their radar.

Paul Warne would undoubtedly benefit from having the 25-year-old on his team, Blackpool, who is competing for promotion in League One.

Furthermore, he has demonstrated his ability to contribute in the Championship in the past, so he isn’t just a stopgap solution.

But halfway through the season, is Blackpool really willing to give him up to a contender for promotion? I’m not entirely certain.

Hamilton’s contract at Bloomfield Road may be coming to an end, but considering they probably won’t get much for him, you have to wonder if cashing in would be worthwhile.

A move elsewhere seems more plausible, with Championship clubs showing interest as well.
