Newcastle co-owner backtracks on claims that Magpies fans ‘need to be louder

Reversing his earlier assertion that the team’s supporters “need to be louder,” Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi declared that his “love for the club and its supporters is unwavering.”

Following their 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, Ghodoussi issued a rallying cry. However, his remarks drew criticism from some supporters, who said that the team should upgrade its ticketing procedures.

What a team, the Newcastle co-owner commented on X, the former Twitter. We must be louder, show these people greater support, and act as the 12th man in the stadium.

With just two league losses in their past two games, the Magpies are currently at seventh in the standings. They play Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday. Ghodoussi clarified his earlier remarks on social media, stating that they might have been misinterpreted.

“Our words and intentions don’t always line up exactly,” he remarked on x.

I think most of you are aware of how dedicated I am to this club; my love for the club and each and every one of you is unbreakable, and my heart beats in black and white.

We stand together, let’s cross our fingers for tonight. Cheers to us and our shared path. Hurry up, boys.

In response to his previous post, he did, however, receive some criticism from Newcastle supporters. One wrote: “This club has awful pre-match build-up, one of the largest ticket touting problems in the Premier League, and added a new £800-per-game hospitality package this season designed for tourists.”

“The announcer reads birthday messages during our halftime show.”

Another person stated, “I believe it’s difficult for people to organize and set up activities, songs, or chants when they’re not seated together.” It will probably get better if people choose their seats and sit with their buddies.

Another person said, “You won’t have any problems with that if you bring back the old ticketing system.”

Joelinton, Anthony Gordon, Jamaal Lascelles, and Alexander Isak all scored goals as the Magpies defeated Chelsea at home on Saturday.

When Newcastle defeated PSG 4-1 at home in their October home leg, supporters of the team also made St. James’ Park into a bear pit.

In spite of this, Eddie Howe’s team is bottom of Group F following back-to-back Champions League losses to Borussia Dortmund.

Ghodoussi’s team has risen through the Premier League since Newcastle’s £305 million takeover was finalized in 2021, qualifying for the European competition for the first time in about two decades.

However, their takeover has been questioned; earlier this year, some Newcastle supporters called for the Premier League to look into the transaction.
