Considered by many to be the best snooker player of all time, Ronnie O’Sullivan gives a detailed account of himself as a wonderful leader (goat), with the owner of the team wishing him all the best.
To further solidify his place among the finest players in snooker, O’Sullivan won the Shanghai Masters invitational back in September of last year, matching Stephen Hendry’s record of seven global titles. Higgins, on the other hand, feels that he is no longer in the same conversation as O’Sullivan and fellow great Mark Williams and has been on a two-year hiatus since winning the Players Championship in 2021.
“Isn’t it wrong for me to be in that bracket right now? I’ll just let those two men handle it since I shouldn’t be in the conversation because Ronnie won in Shanghai and Mark won the British Open,” Higgins remarked.
At this point in my life, I don’t think it motivates me, but when you watch them triumph, you have to give them all the respect for constantly trying it at their professional juncture. You take your hat off to those men who are still winning at this point in their careers because you have so much respect for them.
The most important thing to remember is that when you see them with their families, the children have all grown up. When you see Mark with his boys, you remember that I played Mark in the under-15s, and he looks exactly like his boy does today. Time has truly flown by. You have to give them credit when you watch them win competitions because it’s amazing.”
After losing to O’Sullivan in the Crucible last year, Higgins has previously maintained that O’Sullivan is the best player to have ever lived. The 48-year-old has showered his rival with accolades. “I think many would still hold on to Stephen having the seven World Championships and he is the greatest,” he said to Eurosport, I see no room for discussion here.”
While O’Sullivan had originally intended to defend his Champion of Champions title this week in Bolton, he has already pulled out of the competition. He had been scheduled to play Zhang Anda in his opening match, but he withdrew from the competition to put his mental health first, and Ding Junhui took his place.
“Sincerely, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed and anxious,” O’Sullivan stated in a social media post. “I want to take care of both my physical and mental well-being. I apologize to all of my supporters, but I promise to return stronger.”
