Newcastle United interest intensifies as club make contingency plans for key departure

Newcastle United supporters had a terrible week in the Premier League as their team lost two straight games against Tottenham and Everton, giving up an incredible seven goals in the process.

In their most recent 4-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Magpies were surprisingly outplayed and outran by Ange Postecoglou’s team, finishing second in the game.

The way the goals were given up was one of the game’s most worrying aspects, and despite playing the entire ninety minutes, defensive players Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles both appeared to have minor injuries from the match. With Newcastle’s defensive woes from the previous season, when they finished first in the division, fans should not be surprised if Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his backfield during the January transfer window.

According to reports from the Newcastle Chronicle, there are increasing rumors of a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Journalist Alex Nixon of Sun Sport has even stated that the Eagles have started preparing backup plans in case Guehi leaves, with Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera being considered.

Football rumours: Tottenham interested in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

Geuhi is considered as one of the best defenders in the division outside of the top six and has been on Newcastle’s radar for a number of months. His ascent to fame started at the prestigious Chelsea academy, where he advanced alongside Mason Mount, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori, and Trevoh Chalobah.
