Journalist now drops major Newcastle update on Seria-A Manager and PIF

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Roma manager Jose Mourinho as an update on Eddie Howe emerges

Jose Mourinho, the manager of Roma, has been linked to Newcastle United as more information about Eddie Howe becomes available.

Howe has done a fantastic job of transforming the Magpies from a team fighting for relegation to a Champions League team. With significant investment, the former manager of Bournemouth led the North East team to a top-four result in the previous campaign. One could counter that in order for Newcastle to advance, they need to hire a manager of a higher caliber.

Howe isn’t used to leading a team full of superstars and doesn’t have a lot of European experience, which is probably the path Newcastle wants to take. The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has made large financial sacrifices to bolster the team since acquiring control of the team, but this is just the start.

Newcastle could look to appoint Mourinho

Looking at Howe’s prior clubs, Burnley and Bournemouth, the 46-year-old has managed teams in lower leagues or close to the bottom of England’s premier league for the majority of his managerial career. Although the Amersham-born manager has done a fantastic job since taking over as Newcastle’s manager back in 2021, there’s no denying that the Magpies aren’t as good as they were last season.

Newcastle is currently seven points out of the top four in the table, occupying seventh place. Howe has never had to balance domestic competition with European football before; this is a new experience for him. Even though St. James’ Park performances have been severely hampered by injuries, PIF will be expecting more from their manager.

As per recent reports from Italy, Mourinho is reportedly ‘fascinated’ by Newcastle, and the team may try to appoint him soon. The ‘Special One’ and Roma are presently negotiating a new deal, and it’s unclear if Mourinho would be interested in moving to St James’ Park.

In addition to having a wealth of Premier League experience, Mourinho has won numerous trophies in other leagues. Few will contest Howe’s outstanding work at Newcastle, but will he be able to lead the Magpies to greater heights?

Dean Jones update

According to Jones, it would be premature to discuss Mourinho taking over at Newcastle just yet. The journalist does note that PIF is a fan of the former Manchester United manager, but that there is no chance that this will advance anytime soon. Jones said in an interview with GIVEMESPORT…

Though it sounds seductive and it’s easy to see PIF going for a statement signing in the dugout when they need to choose the next manager, it’s premature to discuss Jose Mourinho joining Newcastle United just yet. It will take a club with this kind of wealth and ambition if the Special One is ever to return to English football. However, Mourinho also finds significance in the fact that it is the team that his mentor Bobby Robson was very attached to. It may therefore truly touch people’s hearts and involve the ideal balance of money and emotion.Though it sounds seductive and it’s easy to see PIF going for a statement signing in the dugout when they need to choose the next manager, it’s premature to discuss Jose Mourinho joining Newcastle United just yet. “Although some PIF figures have affection for him, I’m told there is no chance for anything to progress anytime soon, and the last rumor is simply related to the uncertainty surrounding Mourinho’s future at Roma. If Mourinho stays, he wants a new two-year contract, but it seems like his bosses would rather give him a one-year deal. So let’s watch how everything plays out concurrently as Howe and Newcastle attempt to reclaim their Champions League spots.

Eddie Howe won’t be at Newcastle long term

Regarding Howe’s future at St. James’ Park, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan hinted that PIF may become more and more irate if Newcastle doesn’t make progress in the coming years. Thus, in a few years, Howe might not be under fire.

After Howe dangled the Champions League dream in front of the owners last season, the Magpies’ chances of qualifying for the Champions League could be taken away by the end of the season. Currently, they are hovering around the Europa League spots. It will be interesting to see if they can keep pushing by the end of the season because there’s a chance that they will argue that Howe bit off more than he can chew and went too far too soon.
