Snooker icon Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White recently made a pitstop at a favored York eatery, shedding light on his culinary preferences.
The esteemed six-time Snooker World Championships finalist, renowned as one of the greatest players to have never clinched the world title, graced the city in conjunction with the Mr Q UK Championships held at York Barbican.
Venturing into the Mediterranean enclave known as The Olive Tree on Tower Street last Friday (November 24), Jimmy, the 1992 UK Champion, chose the locale for an evening repast.
Pina, the general manager at The Olive Tree, expressed gratitude, stating, “The Olive Tree York was privileged to host Jimmy White and his esteemed guests for an evening of gastronomic delights.”
The restaurant, priding itself on delivering an extraordinary culinary journey, relished the acknowledgment from Mr.
White, who apparently relished the genuine Mediterranean creations crafted by the head chef. A significant factor in Jimmy’s favoritism towards The Olive Tree is attributed to its scenic view of Clifford’s Tower and its proximity to the Castle Snooker Club, a regular haunt for the snooker luminary during his York excursions.
As the UK Snooker Championships unfolded at York Barbican, Jimmy’s unfortunate 6-2 defeat to teenager Xing Zihao in the initial qualifying round cast a shadow over his visit.
