Report: £6m ace wants to be Nuno’s first signing at Nottingham Forest despite Russia interest

Zenit St Petersburg is currently engaged in discussions to acquire the services of Nino, the Fluminense defender. However, Nino reportedly has a preference for joining Nottingham Forest, expressing a desire to play in the Premier League. With the recent appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground, confirmed as Steve Cooper’s replacement, there is speculation that Fluminense’s Copa Libertadores-winning captain could potentially become the inaugural signing of a new era at Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest is actively seeking to strengthen their defensive lineup in the upcoming January transfer window, especially with uncertainties surrounding the futures of Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna. The club has expressed interest in Nino, the 26-year-old captain of Fluminense, a sentiment confirmed by Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt back in November. Forest appears keen on securing defensive reinforcements, and Nino is a potential target to address their needs at the back.

“We need to acknowledge that it is the player’s dream to play in Europe, and he deserves it,” says Bittencourt on the Charla podcast, recognizing Nino’s aspirations. He reveals that Nino has little inclination to extend his contract, which is set to expire in 12 months. Bittencourt discloses that Nino had received various offers, including one from the Middle East, which was financially beneficial for Fluminense. However, Nino expressed his family’s decision against the Middle East and a strong desire to play in Europe.

“Nottingham Forest was the first offer that arrived,” Bittencourt adds. While there might have been a slowdown in developments in recent weeks, Forest fans can remain hopeful, as the City Ground still stands as the most likely destination for Nino.

Nino joins Nuno

The Brazilian defender, Marcilio Florencio Mota Filho, commonly known as Nino, is reportedly in discussions with Russian powerhouse Zenit St Petersburg, as indicated by Championat. However, his preferred destination remains the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest being the front-runners. Forest is prepared to take a step that Zenit might not, as they are willing to activate the £6 million release clause in Nino’s contract with Fluminense, as reported by O Dia.

If the deal materializes, the 26-year-old center-half would be the second Brazilian defender to join Nottingham Forest within a short span, following the recent acquisition of former Corinthians talent Murillo.
