Coventry boss delivers Sunderland verdict on Tony Mowbray sacking

Coventry City manager Mark Robins provided a preview of his team’s upcoming Championship fixture against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Coventry manager Mark Robins expressed empathy for Tony Mowbray after his dismissal from Sunderland earlier this month. Mowbray was succeeded at the Stadium of Light by Michael Beale, formerly of Rangers and QPR, who is set to lead Sunderland in his first match against Coventry this weekend.

Coventry City, having reached the play-off final last season, currently occupies the 15th position in the Championship after consecutive draws against Southampton and Leeds. When discussing the team’s preparation for the upcoming match against Sunderland, manager Mark Robins mentioned that the squad is gaining confidence from positive results and performances. He commended the players for executing game plans effectively and expressed confidence that their strong performances will continue.

Robins highlighted the significance of the game against Sunderland, especially considering it will be Michael Beale’s first match as the new head coach. Beale, in his first press conference as Sunderland’s head coach, praised Mowbray’s contributions, particularly guiding Sunderland to the play-offs last season. When asked about the potential changes under Beale, Robins mentioned the challenge of implementing new methods with a different group of players. He noted that Beale has expressed a desire to build on what Mowbray had achieved while incorporating his own ideas.

“So, Michael has come in, really to a team that’s been playing pretty good football with a lot of talented footballers in their ranks, and they do things in a in a certain way and I’m sure that he will change some bits and pieces, but you won’t know until you see that tomorrow. They’re a really good team. They’re an attacking team. They’ve got some really good attacking players and they’ve got some good quality and I think it will be a really good game.”
