Just in: Newcastle United have made a shock deal for “special” attacking player…

Eddie Howe has openly acknowledged his appreciation for the young talent on previous occasions.

Newcastle United is keen on acquiring a “special” attacking player once the January transfer window becomes active, and Eddie Howe has openly confessed to being an admirer of the player in question.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies have approached the winter transfer window after a series of sluggish performances in recent weeks across the Premier League, Champions League, and EFL Cup.

Newcastle’s injury-plagued squad appears to be feeling the strain of a demanding schedule, with the poor performance of Kieran Trippier serving as a clear illustration of their current challenges.

As the January transfer window approaches, supporters are likely eager to see new signings that could provide the additional depth sought by Eddie Howe. Recent reports have linked several players to a potential move to St James’ Park, with a focus on strengthening both the defensive and offensive aspects of the team.

In the defensive department, Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio is consistently rumored as a potential addition to the Newcastle squad. Meanwhile, in the attacking realm, VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who has been in outstanding form with 17 goals in just 12 Bundesliga starts this season, is mentioned as a player who could alleviate the pressure on key figures like Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak.

Newcastle want Hugo Ekitike

In a recent transfer update from L’Equipe, as reported by OneFootball, Newcastle is expressing interest in securing the services of Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitike during the upcoming January transfer window. However, the Magpies are set to face competition from Lyon, adding a layer of complexity to the potential deal. The competition from other clubs may pose challenges for Newcastle in successfully completing the transfer.

In the past, Eddie Howe openly acknowledged his admiration for Hugo Ekitike as a player, despite missing out on signing him in the summer of 2022. Howe stated, “It’s no secret that we really liked Hugo, and we worked hard to try and do that deal. He’s a very talented lad, and he decided to go to PSG. I have no hard feelings toward him and wish him well in the next phase of his career. I really do wish him luck.”

Ekitike could potentially be an excellent addition to Newcastle, initially joining as a squad player with significant potential and later evolving into a key player. At 21 years old, he may have learned valuable lessons from playing alongside iconic teammates such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar at PSG, where he has contributed four goals and four assists in 33 appearances.

Considering the injury-prone nature of both Wilson and Isak, there appears to be a pressing need for another attacking player. With Wilson now in his 30s, Ekitike could be viewed as a player who has the potential to replace him over time. Former Reims manager Oscar Garcia has praised Ekitike in the past, noting, “There is something very special about him. He’s young, and he has the quality to become a very good player. He’s a young man with a lot of quality but also a lot to improve on, but he works hard in training.”
