Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest coaching set-up confirmed as changes made

The most recent news from Nottingham Forest includes the appointment of new coaching staff at the City Ground by head coach Nuno.

Nuno Espirito Santo has introduced four familiar individuals to his coaching team at Nottingham Forest. The 49-year-old took over as head coach from Steve Cooper last week, and the club has officially announced the composition of his supporting staff.

Rui Pedro Silva and Julio Figueroa will serve as assistant coaches, with Rui Barbosa taking on the role of goalkeeper coach and Antonio Dias as the fitness coach. Notably, all four individuals have previous experience working with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Silva initially joined forces with Nuno at Rio Ave in 2012, later becoming his assistant coach at Valencia, Porto, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the earlier stages of his career, Silva also had stints as an assistant coach at Malaga.

Figueroa was a member of Nuno’s team at Molineux and previously served as a sports psychologist with Barcelona’s youth academy. Barbosa, on the other hand, has a history as the goalkeeper coach under Nuno at various clubs, including Rio Ave, Porto, Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur, and Al-Ittihad. Meanwhile, Dias has been a longstanding collaborator with Nuno, sharing professional ties at Porto, Rio Ave, Valencia, Wolves, Spurs, and Al-Ittihad.

Following the departure of Steve Cooper, assistant Alan Tate, goalkeeping coach Danny Alcock, and head of sport science David Tivey also left the club. However, it was announced that first-team coach Steven Reid and head of performance analysis Steve Rands would be retained, while discussions were to be held with first-team coach Andy Reid “over the festive period.”

Nottingham Forest has made a notable addition to their coaching staff by appointing their first-ever set-piece coach, Simon Rusk. Rusk, who previously served as the head coach for England Under-19s, joined the club’s backroom staff earlier this month.

Since taking charge at the City Ground, Nuno Espirito Santo has overseen two games. The team secured their first points under his management on Boxing Day with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park, ending a seven-match winless streak for Forest.

The upcoming challenge for Forest is a fixture against Manchester United at the City Ground, scheduled for Saturday.
