Potential Pioli replacement identified but Furlani has another coach in mind

Ongoing developments regarding AC Milan’s potential head coach for the upcoming season are generating interest, with reports indicating a divergence of opinions within the management team.

According to Sportitalia, Antonio Conte had a second in-person meeting with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is advocating for Conte’s appointment on a three-year contract for the 2023-24 season. While Conte didn’t decline the job during the meeting, he took his time to consider, expressing a lack of conviction. In a respectful manner, he listened to De Laurentiis’s proposal.

Despite the Napoli discussions, Conte’s primary objective is reportedly to return to Milan. Coaching Milan appears to be his top priority, especially considering Inter’s current coach, Simone Inzaghi, and the unlikelihood of a change unless there is a significant downturn.

Thiago Motta becomes strong candidate for Roma's managerial position

Notably, there hasn’t been a direct meeting with AC Milan yet. According to the source, Sporting Director Geoffrey Moncada and player Zlatan Ibrahimovic are pushing for Conte’s future with Milan. However, CEO Giorgio Furlani is reportedly more inclined towards Thiago Motta for several reasons, including Motta being a young and exciting coach, potential cost considerations regarding Conte’s high salary, and strategic considerations for team construction.

While Conte’s priority is coaching Milan, consensus among all involved parties at the club is considered crucial for any potential appointment.
