In his solitary regular season with the Vols following his transfer from Northern Colorado, Knecht showcased impressive statistics, averaging 21.4 points per game, along with 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

This stands as the second-best in the league over the past 22 seasons, marking the highest scoring average for any Division 1 player in the current season and the top performance among Power Six players in league play since 2019-20.

In response to winning the award, Knecht engaged with the media on Monday to share his thoughts.

Reflecting on how he learned about being named SEC Player of the Year, he mentioned that Tennessee basketball director of operations Mary-Carter Eggert and Jonas informed him simultaneously while he was in the training room.
