Janice Suber McNair Fire Controversial Statement To executive vice president Hours Ago

Houston Texans Part Ways with Executive VP of Football Operations Jack Easterby.

The Houston Texans have undergone a significant change in their front office, as they have announced the departure of Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Jack Easterby.

This decision, reported earlier by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, marks a mutual agreement between Easterby and the organization. Cal McNair, Chair and CEO of the Texans, released a statement regarding this development.

Easterby’s tenure with the Texans began in 2019 when he was appointed by McNair, who had recently assumed ownership following his father’s passing.

Houston Texans finally close the Jack Easterby era

Initially hired as the executive vice president of team development, Easterby quickly ascended to the role of EVP of football operations within a year.

His hiring and subsequent promotion raised eyebrows across the NFL due to his lack of substantial football operations experience.

With a background as a team chaplain for the New England Patriots, Easterby’s primary focus had been on character coaching and spiritual guidance for players, rather than football-related activities.

Critics suggest that Easterby’s unfamiliarity with traditional football operations may have contributed to the Texans’ lack of success during his tenure.

His involvement in key decisions, such as appointing Bill O’Brien as general manager, culminated in the controversial trade that saw star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins traded to the Arizona Cardinals for minimal compensation.

This move, coupled with other organizational changes, including the hiring of Nick Caserio as GM, exacerbated tensions with franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson and further eroded team cohesion.

The departure of Easterby signals a shift in the Texans’ front office dynamics and reflects the organization’s efforts to chart a new course moving forward.
