A season of transformation is about to begin for the Milwaukee Brewers.
There’s not a better word to describe the 2024 season that came after a very tumultuous offseason.
The manager Craig Counsell and star Corbin Burnes trades—to the rival Chicago Cubs, no less—were the big ones.
Brandon Woodruff of the Brewers will not throw this season in order to recover from shoulder surgery by 2025.
Some youthful players gave the Brewers a spark in 2023, and they will need to carry it over into this season. On his own, one specific newcomer has generated interest.
In the NL Central, can the Brewers repeat? It’s a squad full of uncertainties, but if you look at the rest of the division, St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh are all full of holes.
I’m intrigued by three aspects of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024.
Despite Jackson Chourio’s minimal experience above Double-A, the Brewers awarded the 20-year-old outfielder an eight-year, $82 million deal during the winter.
The thing is, securing Chourio was a logical decision. He appears to be the Brewers’ next big star for all the right reasons.
In the minors last season, Chourio hit.283 with 22 home runs, 91 RBI, and 44 stolen bases. It would be unrealistic to expect major things from Chourio straight away in Milwaukee, so we will occasionally have to exercise patience while he gets used to big-league pitching.
However, it should be entertaining to see Chourio and the other up-and-coming talent in the group develop over the course of this season.
• Speaking of that young potential, Sal Frelick appeared in 57 games as a rookie last season, playing all three outfield positions. He brought some vigor to the lineup and demonstrated his belonging.
