NFL Confirm Another Free Agent Worth Over $142 million Hours Ago

The Houston Texans made a deal for Stefon Diggs for obvious reasons. For the same reason, the team signed free agents with full guaranteed contracts for $142 million this offseason, the second-highest amount of any NFL team.

Investing in talent surrounding quarterback C.J. Stroud is imperative, since he is set to play for the next four years on a cost-controlled rookie deal.

As more proof that the Texans, the AFC South champions by surprise last season, are all in right now, they sacrificed a 2025 second-round selection for Diggs.

Stefon Diggs trade winners, losers, grades: Did Texans best Bills?

By adding a consistent playmaker who has six consecutive seasons with more than 1,000 yards each year, they are strengthening their receiving room.

The ideal situation for Houston would be if Diggs performs like the outstanding player we have seen him to be—at Buffalo and Minnesota—assists in further Stroud’s development, and leads Houston well into the postseason.

Once more, it’s clear why Diggs was acquired.

It’s unclear, though, why the Texans decided to waive the last three years of his contract in exchange for him and forfeited a potential second-round selection.

These are just the first of many inquiries regarding a deal that, although it appeared fair to both parties on Wednesday, is now appearing to be more of a perplexing choice for the Texans.
