A young pitcher and another catcher are reportedly signed to minor league contracts by the Atlanta Braves.
In the last two weeks, Carter Rees and Jose Marcano have both signed minor league contracts, marking two new arrivals to the Atlanta Braves’ lower levels of the organization. Rees was signed back on March 29, and Marcano joined the team on April 3, based on the club’s transaction log.

Starting with Rees, the 20-year-old right-hander just finished his 2023 campaign with the MLB Draft League’s West Virginia Black Bears, making 11 appearances in all. In those 11 appearances, Rees was out of the bullpen with a 2-0 record, 0.59 ERA, and 23:9 K:BB ratio in 15.1 innings pitched.
Rees signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels organization in August 2023 after the season, but he did not play for the team and was released a few weeks later on March 21, 2024.
Regarding Marcano, the 19-year-old has played in 53 games with the DSL Mets over the course of the last three seasons since the New York Mets first signed him to a minor league contract in May of 2021. The catcher Marcano hit.258/.326/.331 with one home run, 19 RBI, and 11 stolen bases in those 53 games.
After being formally released by the Mets in November of 2023, Marcano signed with Atlanta on April 3, as was previously indicated.
Both Rees and Marcano were sent to the FCL Braves, and neither has played in a game this season, according to the Atlanta Braves transaction record. Both players will probably play their whole 2024 season in the Braves organization’s lower levels, spending time in either Low-A or Rookie Ball.
