Despite their recent struggles, it is evident that the Miami Dolphins are working hard to strengthen their special teams.
It was obvious that the Miami Dolphins were committed to improving their subpar special teams.
They have added a guy whose prior NFL experience was mostly focused on that aspect of the game for the second time this offseason.
Cam Brown, a former linebacker for the New York Giants, is the most recent acquisition; the team signed him on Wednesday.
After being selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Penn State, Brown played his first four seasons in the league with the New York Giants.
Brown participated in 66 games out of a possible 66 in those four seasons; yet, following 93 defensive snaps as a rookie, he has only played 14 total defensive snaps in the previous three years.
Over the course of his four seasons with the Giants, Brown averaged over 80 percent of the team’s special teams snaps with 1,328 special teams plays.
Here is a scouting report on Brown from Patricia Traina of Giants Country Publisher: “Cam Brown was a regular core special teams player for the New York Giants and was highly regarded by the coaches due to his unique blend of size, speed, and length.
He played some gunner as a rookie, but it soon became apparent that he was more useful when he roamed the center of the field. Brown, an outside linebacker when he first entered the league, tried to move inside during his first season.
Brown was formerly the Giants’ special teams captain. Brown struggled with the cerebral aspect of the game and lacked defensive instincts, therefore the experiment failed.
“Brown has had a patchy career on special teams. While on special teams, he never really produced any plays that made a difference in the game, and at times, he was as visible as he was potent.
He makes a decent attempt, and once more, his stature, speed, and length are difficult to overlook, but the Giants presumably decided to cut him go mostly due to his inconsistent play.”
