David Perron of the Red Wings has an odd situation.
It’s very evident that David Perron wants to stay with the Detroit Red Wings. General Manager Steve Yzerman has publicly said that he is in favor of the notion.
So why does it seem so unlikely that Perron will play another season in Detroit?
Perron remarked, “I like it here.” “That’s a really unique location.”
According to Yzerman, Perron has contributed something truly unique to the club.
“I have to give it serious thought to bring that player back,” Yzerman said.
Everyone seemed to be in agreement. Why does it seem like they could still flip the page, though?
Money, which is frequently cited as the source of all evil, is the actual cause of the issue.
Will the Red Wings have enough cash on hand after paying Perron?
To be honest, at this moment, we have no idea how to answer that question.
Colleague Kevin Allen wrote a fantastic explanation of all the contracts that need to be negotiated by the team before the 2024–25 season begins, along with how those agreements can seriously impact the Red Wings wage cap. There will be a handful of pacts among that set of participants who, at most, fit the definition of known unknowns.
Detroit needs to sign two restricted free agents who are essential to the team’s future: forward Lucas Raymond and defender Moritz Seider. Will they be signing bridge agreements that may pay as much as $6 million a season? Or will these two players be looking for long-term contracts that may push the price up to $8 per campaign?
