The Detroit Red Wings have signed Soo Greyhounds defenseman Andrew Gibson to a three-year entry-level contract.
With 68 regular season games played and a career-high 12 goals and 44 points, Gibson enjoyed the greatest season of his OHL career in 2023–2024. In the second round of the OHL Playoffs, he played in 11 postseason games as the Greyhounds defeated the Spirit in Game 7.
Over the course of three seasons, the 19-year-old has played 119 games with the Greyhounds and scored 65 points. Additionally, Gibson and Canada took home a bronze medal from the 2023 U18 World Championships.
In the 2023 NHL Draft, Gibson was chosen 42nd overall by Detroit.
Andrew Gibson’s UPDATE The Red Wings today announced the entry-level signing of defender Andrew Gibson, who will play in 2024–25. The deal is for three years. For the duration of the 2023–24 season, Gibson will report to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League as an amateur tryout.
