After the Boston Celtics lost Game 2 to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, center Jayson Tatum disputed the idea that his squad is a “super team.”
In his news conference after the game, Tatum questioned the narrative, despite the Celtics’ strong roster and performance throughout the regular season.
Tatum addressed the idea that the Celtics are a super team, emphasizing that this notion isn’t supported by the club’s real accomplishments.
“The notion that our squad is unbeatable… It’s dual, am I correct? We only had two All-Stars and neither the MVP nor the Coach of the Year award. They call us a terrific team, but we didn’t receive the same recognition,” Tatum said.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers by 25 points in Game 1 of their second-round series thanks to three players: Derrick White (25 points), Jaylen Brown (32 points), and Payton Pritchard (16 points off the bench).
The Cavaliers defeated the Celtics 118-94 on Thursday in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series. The Cavaliers led the Celtics by 12 points in the third and fourth quarters.

In Game 2, Boston’s dominance in the series opener was put to the test as they shot an unusual 41.3 percent from the field against the Cavaliers’ 54.7 percent.
With five minutes left in the game on Thursday night at TD Garden, a large group of Celtics supporters made their way out. As the Celtics lost handily in the playoffs, their supporters turned against them.
The Celtics are strongly favored to win the series and, consequently, Game 2 as the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
As time ran out, Celtics supporters started leaving TD Garden in droves after admitting defeat. In addition, the remaining Celtics supporters at TD Garden were obviously upset with how the team played in the lopsided home defeat.
What made them even more disappointed was that Boston had an exceptionally bad shooting night from outside the arc, making only 8 of 35 shots at a pitiful 22.9 percent.
Among the five Cavaliers starters who scored in double figures were Donovan Mitchell, who finished with 29 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, and a plus-38 rating. He took pleasure in making 10–19 field goals, including 5–19 from beyond the arc.
With seven rebounds, six assists, and 25 points, Jayson Tatum led Boston. Jaylen Brown finished with 19 points but missed all six of his three-point attempts. On Saturday, Game 3 will be played in Cleveland.
