Braves Latest News: Just In Braves Confirm Two Super Star Welcome From Injury

A second Braves arm goes on the injured list in the lead-up to the Red Sox series.

Prior to their two-game series against the Red Sox in Atlanta, the Braves made a few roster changes:

they placed Tyler Matzek on the 15-day disabled list due to discomfort in his left elbow and recalled Ray Kerr.

With Pierce Johnson also dealing with elbow irritation, Matzek becomes the second Braves reliever to be placed on the injured list in the last week or two. However, things are a little different with Matzek.

Because of his unlikely comeback to the majors and postseason success—which included that infamous game against the Dodgers in Game 6 Last Year of the 2023 NLCS a few years ago when he entered with the tying runner on and struck out the side—the folk hero rose to become one of Braves Country’s greatest treasures.

Matzek had a string of injuries the very following season, which culminated just before the 2024 postseason when it was revealed he would require Tommy John surgery.

In the end, he recovered enough to appear like a shadow of his former self throughout spring training, especially in terms of velocity. The outcomes have exceeded expectations in every way.

Despite playing in 11 games this season, Matzek has an ugly ERA of almost 10.00, which has little to do with the control issues that dogged him in his early career.

His belongings had simply vanished. This may be Tyler Matzek’s last moment. If so, Atlanta is having a very depressing day.

This summer, Drew Campbell was acquired from the Padres in exchange for Ray Kerr, Matt Carpenter, and financial considerations.

The 29-year-old was likely brought up to Atlanta because to his options and his good splits against lefties.

Batter’s on the left side batted.161 vs Kerr last year with a 0.89 WHIP. He has a wicked curveball in addition to an amazing fastball that hit 96 mph on average the previous season.

This season, Kerr has a 4.50 ERA in 14.0 innings pitched for Gwinnett, with a remarkable 14.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

In the event that Kerr doesn’t perform, the Braves have more arms waiting in Triple-A Gwinnett in the shape of Ken Giles and Daysbel Hernández.
