After a melee in front of the U.S. net, one Red Wings goaltender, Alex Lyon, was forced to leave the game. Six players scored for Team USA.
After being trodden on, Alex Lyon’s hand became cut and had to be removed. Trey Augustine enters the contest.
Trey Augustine, a Michigan State prospect, was named the Red Wings’ replacement for Lyon. Augustine won the game with 11 saves out of 12 shots, while Lyon saved all 14 that he faced.
Augustine, who led Michigan State to the NCAA playoffs last month and supported the United States to the gold medal at the World Junior Championships last winter, put on another impressive performance.

After Lyon left, Alex Nedeljkovic, a former Red Wing, was the third goalkeeper to suit up. There was no immediate word on Lyon’s injury or his return to the field. Goalies from the Red Wings’ past (Nedeljkovic), present (Lyon), and future (Augustine) are the remaining players on Team USA.
Ly0n participated in a team-high 44 games for the Red Wings past season, when he began as the team’s third goalkeeper. Having started in Team USA’s opening defeat to Sweden, he has so far in the tournament stopped 47 out of 50 shots that have come his him.
Jeff Petry, the defenseman, participated in American combat as well.
Slovakia should provide Team USA with their toughest opponent yet in pool play.
Team USA faces France, Poland, Kazakhstan, and Latvia after Slovakia. After losing the opener against Sweden, the best team in the group, the Americans wanted to get back on the winning track.
For Team USA, Brady Tkachuk named the player of the match. Shane Pinto, Cole Caufield, Mixchaek Kessering, and Seth Jones all got two points.
The Americans’ scorers were Kesselring, Tkachuk, Trevor Zegras, Luke Hughes, Johnny Gaudreau, and Michael Eyssimont.
Moritz Seiter, a defenceman with the Red Wings, was not on Team Germany.
