Breaking News: Explain Why the Kansas City Chiefs should trade for DK Metcalf

The wide receiver position has dominated headlines for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 offseason.

Wideout was considered as the glaring weakness of Kansas City’s Super Bowl-winning lineup previous season. Consequently, wide receiver was the position where they made their biggest free agency acquisition in Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. They also put their top draft selection on wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Unfortunately, the greatest off-the-field headline this offseason has been the legal difficulties of wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Despite all of that, I don’t believe the Chiefs should be done at wide receiver before training camp takes out is Saint Joseph, Missouri in a couple of months. Part of that is due of the question marks surrounding Rashee Rice’s legal difficulties and a possible upcoming ban. Another aspect is because I feel the Chiefs are still lacking a starting outside X receiver.

Yes, Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown have both played a lot of snaps on the outside, but a receiver that lines up outside and a real X receiver are not the same thing. Both Brown and Worthy are best served lined up off the line of scrimmage (even on the outside) where they can better utilize their speed to have a free release without a defender putting their hands on them. While Marquez Valdes-Scantling never blossomed as a consistent pass catcher, he did fill that job (and a ton of snaps) standing up on the line of scrimmage and taking on the physical duties that come with that.

Even if Rashee Rice plays most of this season, he performed his best work out of the slot last year and if both Worthy and Brown are better off working in space, the Chiefs might need a tough outside receiver. That is why I am here to propose that the Chiefs should make a large statement in the coming weeks and deal their 2025 1st round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for DK Metcalf.
