As he searches for a new deal, wide receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings has taken a significant choice to attend team organized practice.
For Monday’s required exercises, Jefferson did not show up, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. There have been discussions between Jefferson and the Vikings regarding a new deal, but nothing has been finalized as of yet.
According to team sources, WR Justin Jefferson—who has been in negotiations with the Vikings about a contract extension—was not seen at the team’s training facility today as organized team activities got underway.
Entering the last year of his rookie contract, the standout wide receiver is expected to earn $19.7 million in 2024 on his fifth-year option.
The choice isn’t really shocking. Jefferson missed the optional workouts held last month as well, and he never gave the impression that he would attend them if he didn’t have a new contract in place.
The good news for supporters of Minnesota is that it appears that efforts are being made by both parties to go forward. It is known that he visited Minneapolis not too long ago.
After 60 games, Jefferson has accumulated 5,899 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns, solidifying his position as one of the league’s top wide receivers.
