LSU Tigers Latest News: Kim Mulkey Coach Confirm To Leave For another LSU legend…

Seimone Augustus, a Tigers icon, joined LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey’s coaching team on Monday. Augustus takes Johnny Derrick’s position.

From 2004 to 2006, Augustus led LSU to three consecutive Final Four appearances. “Life always leads you to your true home,” stated 40-year-old Baton Rouge resident Augustus.

During his stellar career at LSU from 2002 to 2006, Augustus won two SEC Player of the Year titles, two Wooden Award victories, and two Naismith Player of the Year titles.

In January 2023, the school installed an Augustus monument outside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Augustus will become a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in November.

This year, she was inducted into both the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

She has exceptional expertise and has performed well at every level of the sport, from high school in Baton Rouge to college, the WNBA, and the Olympics.

She will be a valuable addition to our staff.” Three gold medals from the Olympics were won by the US under Augustus’ leadership in Beijing (2008), London (2012), and Rio de Janeiro (2016).

The Minnesota Lynx selected 6-foot-6 guard/forward Augustus with the first overall choice in the 2006 WNBA Draft.

She played with the Lynx (2006–19) and Los Angeles Sparks (2020) for 15 years, during which she became an eight-time All-Star and four-time WNBA champion. In 2021 and 2022, Augustus served as an assistant coach with the Sparks.
