Elks sign seasoned NFL quarterback McDonald

On Monday, the club declared that American quarterback Cole McDonald had been signed.

McDonald’s final professional stint was with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks in 2023. In 10 games (two starts), the six-foot-four product of Miranda, California, passed for 437 yards and two touchdowns.

McDonald has experience playing in the Canadian Football League; in his one game there in 2021, he completed four of eight throw attempts for a 45-yard gain with the Toronto Argonauts.

From 2016 until 2019, McDonald was a football player at the University of Hawaii. During his 33 games with the Warriors, McDonald passed for 70 touchdowns and 8,032 yards.

On Sunday, the Elks placed offensive lineman Patrick Lavoie, a 2023 draft selection, on the suspended list and dismissed running back Justin Rankin.
