While Zamir White showed potential when stepping in for an injured Jacobs last season, his experience is limited to just four career starts.
In light of this, Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report suggests that the Raiders should strongly consider adding veteran running back Jerick McKinnon to their roster.
Knox notes in his June 24 column, “Adding an experienced receiving back like Jerick McKinnon would make plenty of sense.
McKinnon caught 94 regular-season passes over the last three years. Additionally, McKinnon would bring experience in the AFC West and a little insight into the rival Chiefs.”
Knox also emphasizes that McKinnon’s experience in winning Super Bowls could be invaluable for the Raiders as they aim to reshape their team’s culture under new leadership.
McKinnon’s NFL journey includes stints with the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers, but he most recently played for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he secured two Super Bowl victories.
Throughout his career, McKinnon has mostly served as a backup, starting in only 18 out of 116 games. While he may not vie for the starting position currently held by Zamir White, he could challenge Ameer Abdullah’s role on the team.
Although McKinnon is a dependable veteran, Knox acknowledges that his skill set may overlap somewhat with the existing players on the Raiders’ roster.
Nonetheless, his wealth of experience and proven track record as a receiving back in the NFL makes him a valuable asset worth considering for the Raiders’ evolving backfield.
