Jake DeBrusk Joins the Vancouver Canucks, Ending His Tenure with the Boston Bruins.
In a significant move on the first day of NHL free agency, forward Jake DeBrusk has signed a seven-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks, worth an average annual value of $5.5 million.
This marks the end of DeBrusk’s career with the Boston Bruins, where he played for seven seasons and became a key player.
The Canucks’ General Manager, Patrik Allvin, confirmed the signing, which totals $38.5 million over seven years.
This is DeBrusk’s first experience as an unrestricted free agent.
During his time with the Bruins, DeBrusk tallied 266 points, comprising 138 goals and 128 assists over 465 games.
He scored 20 or more goals in three separate seasons, and his 71 goals over the last three seasons were third highest on the team, behind David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand.
Despite periods of offensive inconsistency, DeBrusk developed into a more versatile player, contributing significantly as a two-way player and penalty killer.
The departure of the 27-year-old winger highlights the Bruins’ need to
bolster their scoring depth, particularly on the wings. DeBrusk’s exit makes it imperative for Boston to secure a proven goal scorer during the offseason.
Earlier on the same day, the Bruins signed free agents Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, further shaping their roster for the upcoming season. Lindholm signed a seven-year deal worth $54.25 million, while Zadorov agreed to a six-year contract valued at $30 million.
At the Bruins’ end-of-season press conference, General Manager Don Sweeney addressed the negotiations to re-sign DeBrusk, emphasizing the team’s efforts.
However, DeBrusk ultimately chose to pursue a new chapter with the Canucks, marking a new beginning in his professional hockey career.
