ESPN Report, Atlanta Braves Baseman Out with Broken Wrist, Expected to Return in 16 Weeks.

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a broken left wrist during Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals and is anticipated to be out for about 16 weeks.

The injury occurred when Albies attempted to catch a throw while Michael Siani stole second base in the ninth inning. Siani’s slide caused Albies to twist his glove hand at an awkward angle, leading to the injury.

Albies immediately showed signs of pain, clutching his left wrist while crouching on the field. He was subsequently replaced by teammate Zack Short at second base.

Following their 6-2 loss to the Cardinals, the Braves announced that X-rays confirmed Albies’ left wrist fracture. The team expects him to be sidelined for around eight weeks.

Albies, a three-time All-Star, has been a significant contributor to the Braves, hitting .255 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs, primarily from the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

This injury marks another setback for the Braves, who previously lost reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury in May.

Additionally, earlier that day, the Braves placed All-Star pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list due to forearm neuritis, a nerve inflammation. This move was made retroactive to Thursday.

Despite these challenges, the Braves are pursuing their seventh consecutive NL East title.

Currently, they trail the first-place Philadelphia Phillies by 8 1/2 games but maintain the top wild card spot in the league.
