The Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has the closest ties to the Plains through his wife, former Auburn cheerleader Izzy Nix.
After Nix’s impressive first-year performance in the Broncos’ 34-30 victory against the Indianapolis Colts on August 11, her remarks resembled those of an Auburn Tiger.
Izzy posted a picture from Lucas Oil Stadium during the preseason game along with the message, “Lived in answered prayers today” (h/t The New York Post).
Nix gained 125 yards and a score on 15 of his 21 throw attempts. On paper, the debut was as flawless as an NFL rookie could be. However, not everyone found the first glimpse of the No. 12 choice in the 2024 NFL draft to be impressive.

Nix’s debut was described as “really rough” by PFF’s Jackson McIntire, who also displayed five examples of rookie errors. Nix’s debut is basically OK because he made a few “rookie mistakes,” but if those flaws aren’t fixed, they might cause the ship to capsize in 2024 or later.
It is evident that Nix is unaccustomed to the agility of rival NFL defensive fronts. After three years of facing SEC West defenses, the two years spent in the Pac-12 did not improve the quality of experience.
Still, it’s not a really alarming situation.
After the Broncos, Nix was never going to have an easy time. The on-field performance was severely disrupted by Sean Payton’s numerous off-field distractions in 2023, and despite receiving a high salary, the offensive line gave up 52 sacks in the previous season.
Immediately? Like in the first tune-up of the preseason? in a match that ultimately serves just to appease the football-starved public?
Who gives a damn?
We can see whether there is a decrease in these kinds of throws when the games count. Compared to intrasquad scrimmages, the NFL preseason is a glorified practice that yields superior practice film.
Until then, try not to get too attached to Nix or the feelings his play elicits.
