The Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to make adjustments to their forward lineup, but a new trade proposal involving the Buffalo Sabres might change that scenario.
Utilizing PuckPedia’s innovative PuckGM tool, a trade suggestion has emerged where the Maple Leafs could acquire Jordan Greenway from the Sabres.
Greenway, who has shown potential to enhance scoring in lower lines, addresses a crucial need for the Maple Leafs.
According to the proposed deal, the Sabres would absorb $1.5 million of Greenway’s $3 million salary for the upcoming season.
This arrangement is noteworthy because Greenway is in the last year of his three-year, $9 million contract. Over his 401 NHL games, Greenway has accumulated 52 goals and 99 assists, totaling 151 points. Last season, while playing for Buffalo, he scored 10 goals and added 18 assists, earning 28 points in 67 games.
On the flip side, the Sabres could receive Pontus Holmberg, a 25-year-old forward who fits well with their youthful roster. Holmberg, with one year left on his $800,000 contract, could find more opportunities to play in Buffalo.
During the previous season, he scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists for 17 points in 54 games. Holmberg’s potential to develop and contribute makes him a valuable asset for the Sabres’ future plans.
This trade proposal underscores a strategic move for both franchises. For the Maple Leafs, bringing in Greenway could address their need for increased scoring depth, while the Sabres gain a younger player in Holmberg who could become a key part of their growing team.
