Former Boston College hockey stars Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew tragically lost their lives in a bicycle accident in New Jersey on Thursday night, according to police reports.
The incident occurred in Oldmans Township around 8 p.m. when the brothers were struck by a Jeep. The driver of the vehicle, who is suspected of being under the influence, remained at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody by law enforcement.
Johnny Gaudreau, aged 31, was renowned for his remarkable career at Boston College, where he played from 2011 to 2014. His brother Matthew, 29, also had a notable hockey career at the college, playing from 2013 to 2017.
The two siblings had the opportunity to play together for one season during the 2013-14 period. Their contributions to the team were significant, and their loss is deeply felt by the Boston College community.
Boston College has expressed its profound sorrow over the loss. Jack Dunn, a spokesperson for the college, conveyed the university’s shock and grief in a statement.
He highlighted Johnny Gaudreau as one of the greatest and most amiable players in the history of Boston College hockey. Matthew was equally admired and cherished by his teammates.
