The Philadelphia Phillies have finalized a lucrative contract with star player Bryce Harper, ensuring his continued presence on the team. The deal, which marks one of the highest salaries in MLB history, is valued at $56 million for the 2024 season, with an additional $60,000 in bonuses, bringing his total earnings for the year to $56,050,000.
Bryce Harper, also known as “Bam Bam,” hails from Las Vegas, Nevada. He was the first overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals and made his MLB debut with them on April 28, 2012. Harper played with the Nationals for seven seasons before joining the Philadelphia Phillies in 2019. As of 2024, he is in his sixth year with the Phillies.
Throughout his career, Harper has achieved significant accolades, including being named an MLB All-Star eight times and winning the National League MVP award. His impressive performance has also earned him the Silver Slugger Award three times and the Hank Aaron Award twice, underscoring his exceptional offensive capabilities.
In February 2019, Harper signed a thirteen-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies, a deal that reflects his value and contributions to the team.
According to Spotrac, Harper’s earnings from this contract in 2024 include a base salary of $56 million and a $60,000 bonus, bringing his total earnings for the year to $56,050,000. His contract, which is valued at $340 million, includes a $30 million signing bonus distributed in two payments and various performance-based incentives. These incentives include bonuses for MVP awards, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards, and All-Star selections.
Over his fourteen-year MLB career, Harper has accumulated earnings totaling $196,579,629. This sum comprises his base salary, signing bonuses, and performance incentives. Specifically, he has earned $52,250,000 from the Washington Nationals and $144,329,629 from the Phillies.
Harper’s contract with the Phillies will conclude in 2031, after which he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2032. This long-term agreement, with its comprehensive no-trade provision and significant financial incentives, highlights the Phillies’ commitment to retaining one of MLB’s most dynamic players and securing his talents for the foreseeable future.
