Ozzie Albies, the second baseman for the Atlanta Braves, made his return on Friday after recovering from a broken left wrist but was unable to contribute to the team’s performance, going hitless in a 4-3 defeat against the Miami Marlins
. Albies was reinstated from the 10-day injured list just in time for the final stretch of the Braves’ chase for a playoff spot.
In his return, he only batted from the right side and recorded no hits in four at-bats.
Manager Brian Snitker expressed optimism about Albies’ presence in the lineup, acknowledging his capabilities despite the poor outing. “We know what he can do,” Snitker commented, emphasizing the importance of having Albies back on the field.
Albies had been sidelined since July 21 due to his wrist injury, which he sustained during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The injury occurred when he was attempting to catch a throw while Michael Siani was stealing second base.
As Siani slid into the base, he collided with Albies, causing his glove hand to bend back at an awkward angle, resulting in the fracture.
Despite his struggles in the game, Albies’ return is crucial for the Braves as they approach the postseason.
His track record as a three-time All-Star highlights his value to the team, and the Braves are hopeful that he can regain his form quickly. The timing of his return is particularly significant as the team is in the midst of a critical playoff push, needing every available player to perform at their best.
With just ten days left in the regular season, the Braves are focused on solidifying their position for the playoffs.
Albies’ experience and skill are seen as vital assets that could make a difference in the upcoming games.
Fans and teammates alike are eager to see how he progresses in the coming days, hoping that he can shake off the rust and contribute effectively.
Overall, while Albies’ return was not marked by immediate success at the plate, his mere presence on the roster offers a boost to the Braves as they strive for postseason success.
As the team looks to clinch a playoff berth, they remain optimistic about Albies’ potential to regain his hitting prowess in the crucial games ahead.
