Stephen Curry made his return to the Golden State Warriors lineup on Monday night against the Washington Wizards, after missing three games due to a left ankle injury. Coach Steve Kerr confirmed that Curry would start, as the Warriors aimed to extend their winning streak.
The 36-year-old guard had been sidelined since October 27, when he suffered a left peroneal strain during a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite his absence, the Warriors had won five of their first six games, including three consecutive victories without Curry.
In his return, Curry played just 24 minutes but still managed to score 24 points, leading the Warriors to a 125-112 victory over the Wizards.
He made 7 of 15 shots from the field, including four three-pointers, and recorded six assists. His performance helped Golden State improve to 6-1 on the season.
After the game, Curry expressed that his ankle felt good and that he was hopeful for an increase in his minutes as the team continued their road trip.
Curry noted that the key to his performance was finding a balance between playing aggressively and adhering to his minutes restriction. He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum throughout the road trip, which features challenging matchups against tough teams, including a rematch with the Boston Celtics, whom the Warriors faced in the 2022 NBA Finals.
Curry’s positive outlook on his recovery suggests he will be ready for more playing time as the Warriors look to build on their strong start to the season.
