The Pittsburgh Steelers have encountered a significant challenge as safety Damontae Kazee has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the regular season and any potential postseason games.

The suspension follows an incident during the Week 15 game against the Indianapolis Colts, where Kazee delivered a forceful hit to the head of wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who was in a defenseless position. This action resulted in Kazee’s ejection from the game.

NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan stated that Kazee’s actions were flagrant and violated player safety rules, leading to the suspension.

Kazee, who has been with the Steelers since 2022, has been a key contributor to the team’s defense. His absence comes at a critical juncture as the Steelers are vying for a playoff spot. The team will need to adjust their defensive strategies to compensate for the loss of Kazee in the secondary.

The Steelers are scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:30 PM PST, followed by a game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM PST.

The NFL has emphasized its commitment to enforcing rules designed to protect player safety, and this suspension underscores the league’s stance on illegal hits. Kazee’s suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all players on the field.
