On Sunday, the Bears made things simple for their replacement.

Even though Tyson Bagent performed well against the Raiders on Sunday, he was given some instruction.

Bagent’s 2.1 air yards per attempt on Sunday set a new NextGenStats record for the smallest average length by a qualified quarterback in a single game this season.

According to @NextGenStats, Tyson Bagent, a rookie with the Bears, had the smallest average depth by a qualified quarterback in a game this season with 2.1 air yards per attempt in the victory over the Raiders.

Bagent filled in at quarterback on Sunday for Justin Fields, who was sidelined due to a thumb injury. Bagent received assistance when the Bears gave him the go-ahead through the air due to his inexperience in the NFL and their lack of confidence in his deep ball.

The statistic shows that Bagent threw the ball 29 times on Sunday, averaging 2.1 yards per attempt. Of those, 21 were completed for a total of 162 yards. As a result, even after removing his attempts, his yards per completion are still incredibly low at 7.7.

It is logical. Undrafted Division II rookie quarterback Bagent will unquestionably be on a leash. The Bears shouldn’t use their deeper, more complex throws from their playbook.

Bear in mind that despite his outstanding accuracy, Bagent’s arm lacks both strength and accuracy downfield. At the conclusion of the first half on Sunday, the Bears attempted a hail mary and replaced Bagent with Nathan Peterman.

Do you recall Bagent’s effort to throw a deep pass to DJ Moore during the Minnesota Vikings game? He was a mile short. There is no justification for the Bears to attempt to challenge Bagent’s ability in a crucial game. And when you’ve had two victories after seven weeks, every game becomes crucial.

However, the Bears did make full use of their running back room. A team’s initial two running backs, Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson, were both out with separate injuries on Sunday, so D’Onta Foreman and Darrynton Evans received a significant workload.

Foreman gained 89 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns in all. Evan added 48 yards of rushing as well.

Be prepared for Luke Getsy and the team to use some of the same strategies.
