Dr. Daniel Plumley, a specialist in football finance, is a welcome addition to our exclusive West Brom column. He will share his thoughts on the most important topics at The Hawthorns every week.

Dan Plumley has argued that West Brom’s position in the Championship is made significantly more difficult by the boardroom’s opacity both on and off the field.

According to a 25 August report by Sam Cunningham for iNews, one shareholder described West Brom as a team with “mysterious loans and unanswered questions.”

Plumley acknowledged that it will undoubtedly have an impact both on and off the field, but at The Hawthorns, it is nothing new with yet another sticking point added to the mix.

He exclusively told West Brom News, “That goes back to the bigger picture and the things that are currently impeding West Brom.”

“It is obvious that this is still a problem. I’ve always called for greater transparency with the stakeholders and the fans, but if you’re not going to do that, you need transparency at the very least within the boardroom. If that’s not happening, if the rumors are true and there is some secrecy, that puts the club in a very difficult position.

“Since they are at the highest level of ownership and are the ones making the decisions, it is an issue if they feel a little confused.

“We are aware of the issue, but it is not brand-new.”
